AUWSA was established under the Water Works Ordinance CAP. 272 amendment (Act NO.8 of 1997), now repealed by Water Supply and Sanitation Act 2009. It was declared a fully autonomous entity by order of the Minister responsible for Water Affairs in January 1998.

AUWSA’s Vision is “To deliver excellent water supply and sewerage services commensurate with World’s best practices”. The Ministry of Water, EWURA, and Board of Directors provide policies, guidelines and directives to govern the Authority, while guidelines to create and implement operational policies and guidelines to conduct the business of the Authority on day to day basis is vested to the Managing Director.

In Kasulu, among other services, the IRC provides camp management, child protection and GBV services for Burundian refugees Mtabila Camp. In Nyarugusu Camp, IRC provides community services including GBV, child protection, youth and development, community-based rehabilitation, and vulnerable care to Congolese refugees. In Kigoma, the IRC manages the Kibirizi reception centre to register and medically screen Congolese asylum seekers, and the refugee transit centre, a temporary stop over serving resettlement cases, protection cases, and preparing returnees for travel to Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Kigoma field office coordinates all medical referral services from all refugee camps to Tanzania regional hospitals and manages a clinic at the refugee transit center.

Background:

Youth Challenge International is a leading youth development organization that has programs in East and West Africa, and South and Central America.
