The Department for International Development (DFID) leads the UK Government’s fight against global poverty. DFID works in partnership with national governments, other development partners, civil society and the private sector to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Tanzania is one of DFID’s largest country programmes in Africa, with an annual aid framework of £150m per annum. A significant percentage of the DFID Tanzania programme is provided as General Budget Support (GBS) to assist the Government in implementation of its National Strategy for Growth and the Reduction of Poverty (more popularly known as the MKUKUTA). This assistance is complemented by programmes to increase wealth creation, improve the provision of basic services, and build a more accountable democratic state.
The Programme Assistant role is an exciting and challenging opportunity to help take forward the work of DFID Tanzania’s Sustainable Growth Team, and help deliver targets set out in the Wealth Creation Pillar of DFID Tanzania’s new operational plan.

Job Title: Programme Assistant
Grade: C1
Section: DFID Tanzania – Sustainable Growth Team
Reports to: B1 Deputy Programme Manager Sustainable Growth Team


Responsibilities:
• Provide programme management support (i.e. ensure programmes adhere to financial procedures, manage the group for timely delivery of annual reviews and other programme reporting, track payments)
• Provide administrative support to the Sustainable Growth Team (e.g. copying, scanning, filing)
• Process invoices using DFID’s electronic accounting system
• Carry out financial checks on payments and ensure compliance in line with DFID’s financial procedures
• Compile monthly financial reporting on Sustainable Growth programmes
• Collate financial information to feed into Corporate Head Quarters returns
• Ensure all key documents are recorded into DFID’s Electronic Document Record Management (EDRM) system
• Provide logistical support to the team (organise internal and external meetings, provide support to visitors, arrange meetings/appointments with Government Officials, Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders as requested)
• Facilitate visas for official visitors, and arrange hotel and transport bookings.
• Work flexibly to provide cover for other team members whenever necessary.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good planning and delivery of work skills
  • Ability to prioritise effectively and work flexibly
Desirable
  • Understanding of financial compliance procedures
  • Programme management skills

Compensation package

A competitive salary with annual progression plus benefits will be offered for this post. This post is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Appointment will be under local terms and conditions and is subject to medical and security clearance.
