Africa’s Children‐Africa’s Future (AC‐AF) Vacancy For Programme Manager

Africa’s Children‐Africa’s Future (AC‐AF) Vacancy For Programme Manager
Africa’s Children‐Africa’s Future (AC‐AF) is a non‐governmental organization currently operating in Canada and Tanzania. We work with vulnerable children to allow them to realize their childhood dreams, live well
balanced lives, provide for their families and support their communities through a rights‐based framework.
Many of these children may have been orphaned as a result of AIDS and will have been identified by the
community as being particularly vulnerable. In addition, we work with the local communities to raise
awareness of HIV and AIDS. In raising awareness, we educate and encourage community members to protect themselves against transmission, provide support and advice to those already infected, and seek to reduce stigma and discrimination against those infected and affected. We are looking for qualified candidates for the position of Programme Manager to lead our team in the Dar es Salaam office.
Responsibilities:
As programme manager, you will be responsible for the daily operations of all programming within Dar es
Salaam although support will be provided by the Executive Director and African Support Co‐ordinator. This will
include a mixture of field work (where you will be directly interacting with children in meetings, workshops,
and personal interviews) and office administration. You will also be expected to lead the Tanzanian‐based
team in the monitoring and evaluation of all programming activities and will be responsible for the planning
and coordination of all events undertaken within Dar es Salaam.

Essential Requirements:

A university degree in a relevant field is essential for this position. However, the successful candidate will also
be expected to be hardworking, very enthusiastic in leading their team and in their interaction with children,
flexible in their approach, and be able to cope with the pressure that this position brings. Previous experience
of working with children is essential, while experience in community development and/or HIV and AIDS is
preferable. Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili are essential as we are an international
organisation. Candidates should have a good knowledge of MS Office applications.

Remuneration:

This is a voluntary position although a monthly volunteer supplement is paid. Please note that the level of
remuneration is not high and is intended to cover the basic living costs of the successful candidate.

To Apply:

Candidates should email an application letter and CV to tanzania@ac‐af.com with the position title in the
subject line. Supplement requirements should be clearly stated in your application letter. References will be
required. The successful candidate should be available to work by the end of April at the latest.

Closing date: 11th April 2011
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Only applicants currently resident in Dar es Salaam will be considered for this position
