GIS Specialist at Electriplan (T) LTD- Tanzania
Position Description:
CONSULTING ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL ENGINEERS

The Tanzania low Cost rural Electrification project has as its objective the demonstration of low cost options for extending the national grid to provide electricity service in rural Tanzania.

To this end pilot projects will be designed consisting of combinations of high voltage lines extending from the existing grid to villages in the rural area.
NRECA International will design the projects by first developing a GIS map that locates the exiting power system in the region of each of the pilot projects and use the map to project the new line extensions.

The GIS Specialist will be responsible for the following activities:
• Obtain data from TANESCO, MCA (T) or the agencies as required to map the exit sting networks in the areas of the pilot projects including information on substation locations line routing and conductor size.
• Incorporate the date into a consolidated GIS database to be used in identifying the scope of the pilot projects.
• Assist in training field staff to collect necessary information suing GPS receivers.
• Assist in line routing, conductor sizes and transformer location for the 33kv and 11kv pilot project teeders using the GIS.
• Learn how to carry the economic analysis process designed by NRECA for qualifying and prioritizing projects.
• Consolidate field data and prepare the information in a format that can be uploaded into milsoft wind will analysis program.

DELIVERABLES

GIS information ready for analysis by the Distribution engineer

Qualifications:

• A University degree or equivalent experience testifying the ability to utilize ESRI, Arch GIS software or prepare a GIS
• Experience in the use of GPS units for mapping
• Demonstrated ability to participate infield survey teams and to carry out quality checks of collected data.
• Wellness to undertake fieldwork in the environment prevailing in rural Tanzania

Supervision

• The assignment is for up to a maximum of 75 (seventy five) workdays all of which will be performed in Tanzania.

Period of performance:

March 20 through June 30, 2011.
